06-04-2006 -  Here is a picture of the numbered foam strips what will be the structural ribs of the canoe bottom. Foam Support Ribs
Before attaching the foam for the rib to the hull of the canoe I trimmed away the layup that extended above the gunwales.  There were sharp protrusions which I did not want to scrape against. Trimming hull gunwales
07-02-2006 - I considered wrapping the foam ribs with the kevlar/carbon fabric prior to gluing them to the hull.  After attempts to keep the fabric in place and still bend the rib to the shape of the hull, I decided to just glue in the ribs using spacing sticks.  You may notice that the ends each rib are tapered.   foam rib layout
07-04-2006 - After attaching the foam ribs with the hot glue gun I cut the strips of Kevlar / Carbon fiber fabric.  cloth rib layout
Here is a picture of the foam ribs installed, covered with Kevlar /Carbon fiber and S-glass and wetted out. Rib wet out with s-glass
07-13-2006 - Here is the first fitting of the foam which will be the bow float of the canoe.  I bet you noticed there is a whole in the center of the foam, I will get to that later.   Yes it is a feature not an error. first fit of bow float
I painted bow float because the color would show since there was going to be no Kevlar / Carbon fiber cloth over it.  Notice in the picture the cap of the paint can is darker than the end result.  I wish it had been darker.  Just call it another mistake but one that is only cosmetic in nature. Painted Bow Float
07-16-2006 - I decided to take a bit of s-glass create a cylinder by molding it to around a plastic cup. cup mold
Here is my molded cup trimmed for the next step. trimmed cup mold
07-17-2006 - I Attached my molded cylinder to the bottom of the bow float, no it is not a mini- surfboard.  I figured my wife deserved a cup holder.  I should have made it larger. cupholder attached to bow float
I taped the s-glass to the back of the bow float before putting it in place in the hull of the canoe. S-glasss taped to back of bow float
Here is the bow float in place before I epoxy it to the hull. Bow float (pre wetout)
07-18-2006 - I had thought that the angle on of the foam was just right when I started to epoxy the bow float in place, however I must have shifted it a bit and needed to use a bit of silica filler around the edges.  The cup holder turned out fine anyway.
The stern float was placed the same way (without a cup holder).

07-19-2006 - project on hold (again) while I figure out how I want to do the seats of the canoe
